I am enthusiastic about teaching on the care of the microbiome, which I first introduced about six years ago and have included in my curriculum ever since. The microbiome refers to the trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa, that live in and on our bodies. These microorganisms play a crucial role in various aspects of our health and well-being. Our initial microbiome is established at birth, ideally through a natural, vaginal delivery after the water breaks. But what if this process is not "perfect"? We are born with an incomplete microbiome. Does this imperfection mean we are destined to be incomplete throughout our lives?
